Hyperfocal Design Releases V-HDRI Skies for Unity and SkyShop

Australia, SA, July 16th - Digital Art developer Hyperfocal Design has released the first ever HDRI (high dynamic range image) collections for Unity and Marmoset's SkyShop plugin. Their first two collections include skies from V-HDRI Skies, a mixture of day to sunset skies, and V-HDRI Magic Hours, a collection of sunset to night HDRIs. This real-time HDRI solution is made possible by Marmoset's SkyShop, which optimizes Hyperfocal's HDRI skies, enabling them to work even on mobile applications with Unity's game engine. These HDRI skies can be used within Unity for games development, real-time architectural visualisation and product design.

Jay Weston, founder of Hyperfocal Design says, “Having developed games myself with Unity, Marmoset's SkyShop really impressed me, I just had to develop a range of HDRI sky collections for it! The level of customization per HDRI within SkyShop is fantastic, you can alter diffuse, specular, background and camera exposure levels to suit your scene."

Hyperfocal's HDRI skies are perfect for games development, featuring a completely clear horizon line, so skies can be used with any type of environment, from mountains to dead flat oceans. Marmoset's SkyShop then enables users to combine their game's environment with Hyperfocal's skies for super accurate lighting and reflections, by rendering a scene to a cubemap.

V-HDRI Skies for SkyShop is available for $95 USD for 14 hemispherical skies, or $100 USD for Magic Hours, a collection of 20 sunset, twilight and night HDRIs. Melbourne, Australia - Pod Cubed, a new game studio by a dentist-turned-designer and two former EA developers, announce the development of their first iOS title, Worm Air.

Birds are attacking the Worm Air balloon, and you need to save the worms! Flick, pop, and zap the birds, and use their own powers against them to score massive combos. Travel to faraway lands and help the worms find a new home.

Pay to win? Forget about it, these worms don't take credit. Worm Air will be released on the App Store as a paid app in late 2012.

Pod Cubed was founded by an unlikely trio in May 2012. Pasteur Tran is a dentist with a passion for designing games who decided games are another way to help people smile. Dion Cuttriss and Owen Thomas are an artist and programmer who worked for various Melbourne studios including IronMonkey Studios (EA Mobile) before joining Pasteur to form Pod Cubed.

At 23 weeks pregnant, a scan on Brianna Hammond's unborn child revealed an abnormality with her baby's heart. Diagnosed with Pulmonary Atresia with VSD (in layman's terms a closed vessel and a hole in the heart), Brianna's child will need immediate life-saving postnatal surgery. Independent game developer Samuel Cartwright has banded together with other local game developers to create Games for Growing a Broken Heart, a series of mobile games to raise funds for the Hammond family.

Brianna's child will undergo immediate postnatal surgery and need ongoing monitoring along with further surgery in later childhood and adulthood. To further complicate their situation Brianna and her family live at Airlie Beach in the Whitsunday region of Queensland and, at 36 weeks pregnant, she will travel over 1000 kilometres alone to the closest major hospital in Brisbane. The cost of this life-saving surgery and long-distance travel has placed a serious financial burden on the Hammond family.

Games for Growing a Broken Heart is a fundraising initiative started by local independent game developer and high school friend of Brianna, Samuel Cartwright, that aims to raise at least $5000 to cover Brianna's hospital and travel expenses through the sale of mobile games published by local independent developers and game studios. The promotion runs in conjunction with the Growing a Broken Heart fundraiser to be held at the Southport Workers Club on the Gold Coast on July 7 2012.

Samuel Cartwright's latest independent iPhone game “Doubloons!” will be released on the Apple App Store on July 6 2012. This fast-paced classic puzzle game brings an exciting, pirate-themed twist to the match four-of-a-kind genre. Twenty cents from each sale will go directly to the Hammond family.

Local Brisbane studio FreshTone Games, publisher of the “One Single Life” series of iPhone games has also pledged a cash donation. The acclaimed and controversial iPhone game “One Single Life” achieved over 2.6 million downloads, achieving a first for its kind in the retail gaming world.

Similar pledges for financial assistance are currently being sought from other local independent game developers and game studios.

Brianna is wife to husband Sean, and mother to 9 year old Ellah. Prior to her baby's due date of August 24 2012, Brianna will move to Brisbane without her family so that her baby can undergo a lifesaving postnatal operation.

The first stage surgery will occur one to two days after birth, where doctors will insert an aorta to pulmonary shunt to supply blood to the lungs while simultaneously fixing the valve that is absent or closed. Second stage surgery will be performed when the child is between six and twelve months old and involves the removal of the shunt, closing the VSD (hole in the heart), and the insertion of a lung valve and graft. The child will then need replacement pulmonary homografts in later childhood and adulthood.

Brianna's father was in the 6th RAR C Company from 1966 to 1967. As a medic on the front line in Vietnam, he suffered from exposure to Agent Orange. Brianna herself suffers from unusual medical issues that, along with those of her unborn child, are suspected to have resulted from this exposure. Brianna's father passed away before her birth.

Peter the Martian has travelled to Earth in his trusty UFO to do some scientific research. But, he has just found out that he miscalculated the amount of fuel he would burn in Earth's atmosphere. His UFO is running out of fuel fast, but luckily, he has discovered that he can fuel his UFO with cows!! Help Peter keep his UFO in the air as long as possible by abducting cows to keep his fuel level up. Be careful of those pesky birds though, zap them before they hit Peter's UFO or they will drain some fuel on impact.

Gameplay is simple, yet so fun! Press and hold a cow to abduct it, and tap birds to zap them out of the sky. Compete with friends, and the world with Game Center leader board support and see who can keep Peter the Martian in the air as long as possible!

All backgrounds, objects, and characters are made from hand cut felt, then photographed for use in the game. There are several 2D animated layers, as the black clad chicken with a red comb tries to run as far as possible, leaping over or sliding under obstacles, and bouncing off trampolines and springboards. He eliminates enemies in the way using shuriken, ninja throwing stars. Players start with three lives and try to run as far as possible with the help of power-ups along the way and quick reflexes.
