The Copper City matte and composite (NukeX) (A personal project)

Journal Category

With this personal project I have endeavoured to create a short animated sequence simulating live-action using a number of Photoshop-created layers projected on to 2D and 3D cards (modelled in Modo) in NukeX 9.

The sequence is HD but regrettably, viewing in HD is restricted for embedded Vimeo videos so if you cannot see it in HD here, you can still view it directly at Vimeo. Simply click on the HD button to view in HD.

Matte paints for the Norwegian Film 'Reisen til Julestjernen' (Journey to the Christmas Star)

Mattes completed for the Norwegian Christmas film ‘Reisen til Julestjernen’ (Journey to the Christmas Star), released in 2012. The bottom two mattes served as backdrops to actors filmed on bluescreen whilst with the first, the foreground (frozen lake) was projected onto a card and the camera set to track-in slightly. CG actors were overlaid into the middle-ground.

There was a mix-up with the credits which led me to be uncredited for my work on this film.

Matte painting for the Norwegian film Kon Tiki

A screen-grab showing a portion of the matte-painting that I completed for the film Kon-Tiki in 2012 with a CGI DC3 aircraft. The original matte was over 16000px in width. Grab courtesy Gimpville AS and Egmont Nordisk Film. The film is the largest and most expensive production undertaken in Norway and was nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars & Golden Globe.

Below: Here is Gimpville’s effect breakdowns for Kon-Tiki. The team there did an amazing job. The sequence in which the matte appears commences around the 2.08 minute mark. Don’t blink!

The concepts were originally for a game project with a fictional 18th century setting that a group of colleagues including myself were working on. Unfortunately it didn't come to fruition.

'Knutsen & Ludvigsen og den fæle Rasputin' feature animation (Norway)

Journal Category

A sample selection of concept art that I completed last year for the Norwegian animated feature, 'Knutsen & Ludvigsen og den fæle Rasputin'. Knutsen & Ludvigsen can best be described as somewhat anarchic singing duo who were immensely popular in Norway in the mid-1970’s to learly 1980’s and are famous for catchy and absurdist children’s songs still loved by young and old today. The film’s visual style is inspired by the artwork of ‘Knutsen’, otherwise known as Oystein Dolmen, who oversaw production.

The film is set for cinematic release on the 29. September 2015. A trailer for the filmis attached. The team at Qvisten Animation under did a great job with what was a very limited budget.
