About the opportunity
Halfbrick is looking for a Game Developer to lead our game client-server architecture design and systems implementation. As part of Halfbrick, you will help the game teams build their business through multiplayer functionality, advertising, in-app purchase, business intelligence and analytics. You will ensure quality system design, implementation and integration of our game client-server architecture to satisfy high availability and scalability targets.

Halfbrick Studios, the game studios behind Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, are looking for someone who is hard working, outgoing and ready to multi-task to join their Brisbane-based team. Some of the tasks involved in the role are (but not limited to):

* Management of general day to day office activities such as taking phone calls, deliveries, general tidiness of shared spaces, filing, building maintenance and co-ordinating flights and accommodation for staff for work related matters
* Working with CEO to build our Student Outreach program to source new graduates and building relationships with local universities
* HR - organising interview appointments as required and communicating with prospective interviewees
* Sourcing and managing incoming playtesters, including giving studio tours and keeping merchandise levels up to date
*Team Support for all teams as required - games teams, Finance, IT and CEO

We are currently on the look out for skilled Full Stack Developers.

You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining various sub-modules and features of the technologies involved in client/server communication for Halfbrick games. This position involves extensive collaboration with game play/engine programmers, so good communication skills and the desire to work closely with others are a must.

What You Need for this Position

Experience and knowledge of (At least 1 Year for juniors/ 3 years for experienced/ 5 years for seniors):

1. C/C++

2. Object oriented design

3. Database Design (MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, etc…)

4. Client/Server communication and Network protocols (HTTP/DNS/TCP/UDP etc…)

5. Source code management (GIT, Perforce, etc…)

6. Test driven development concepts

7. REST API and scalable web services concepts

Halfbrick are looking for a Technical Manager to support our growing technical needs.

Leading an established and talented team, we will be looking for someone to drive the vision of tech in collaboration with the CEO and other key stakeholders.

This role involves working closely with the team implementing the backend services for all of our games. You will be responsible for leading a team of programmers and systems administrators in supporting and extending our cloud infrastructure and client services. You will also work with the business intelligence team, helping them design new data models and cross service architectures to bring cohesion across several sources of data. You will help your team implement solutions across a large range of problem spaces with very big data. You will help care for the stability of our servers and ensure they’re running optimally.

You are:

  • A strong programmer, with a broad range of languages at their disposal;
  • An excellent manager, capable of protecting the time of your team and triaging support requests;
  • Experienced with maintaining servers and databases in an AWS environment;
  • Able to work with a variety of SQL and NoSQL databases with very large datasets; &
  • Able to design elegant solutions to complex problems and lead a team to execute them.

Plusses for:

  • Previous Game Development experience;
  • Familiar with both client and server programming; &
  • Experienced with some combination of C++, Javascript, Node.js, Angular and PHP.
