Help needed for Flash beat em up game

Forum

Team name:
Kicked in the Pants Entertainment (not a registered company)

Project name:
Concrete Jungle.

Brief description:
Concrete Jungle is a side-scrolling beat-em-up game akin to arcade video games and video games popular in the 1990s (examples include Streets of Rage and 2 Crude Dudes and Final Fight). This game will be a throwback to those games that are hard to gain access to since video arcades are diminishing and the old home game consoles are no longer in production. The game will utilise all the advantages of modern gaming technology (in terms of visual art, audio production and programming) to engage the user in long-term play.

Concrete Jungle will use a simple Role-Playing Game function, where the player can customise the appearance of the avatar, and at the end of every stage, tokens gained can be exchanged for skill upgrades and new weapons. This will ensure that after the player has stopped playing the game for the first time, they will want to come back to the game, as they have become involved in their avatar’s progression.

In order for this game to work, engaging the player into a believable world and characters partnered with sophisticated and exciting game-play will be crucial to the game’s design and development. This is because many of today’s popular offline games require an average of 20 hours to play, while popular MMORPG's require months play.

The art style in Concrete Jungle will be similar to games like Streets of Rage where exaggeration was widely used to make a visual impact within the game. This game will utilise today’s technology in order to produce a believable 16-bit

Target aim:
We have not made specific plans in terms of making money from this project. We are working on this project because we have a strong affection for games and the games industry as a whole. We appreciate the hard work other developers put into their craft, and our direct aim is to put our passion into practise by creating a game for others to enjoy. If in the future the game is successful we would definitely like to make more and hopefully start a small flash based gaming company.

Compensation:
This is a purely volunteer project, but if all is successful, with the game and people demand more. We will certainly work out a payment plan for each person that worked on the project. If they wanted to,and any future projects done with us.

Technology:
We want to release our game via web browsers and flash game portals such as newgrounds, armor games etc etc. We have played other flash beat em up games, and have found this to be a great means for independent developers to release their products. We are currently looking at using Flash.

Talent needed:
At this stage we are looking for people to help us so we can start development. We need 1 illustrators for the conceptualizing, 1 flash artist/animator/programmer to put it all together and make it work, No commercial experience is necessary, we are primarily looking for people who put passion for interactive games ahead of commercialism and the wanting of wealth. For illustrators, we need one person for the stage backgrounds, items and weapons the other for the character concepts and character moves. For the flash artist/animator/programmer, we a looking for someone with a deep understanding and knowledge of games and flash.

Team structure:
We are a small team of amateur designers who are passionate about what we are working on and interactive games in general. We have no commercial experience, but are taking a leap of faith and attempting to make a game that will be enjoyed by many people. There are two of us in the team who have been around since day one.

Website:
We haven't a website at this moment, as we are in the design stage. However, we do plan on showcasing the progress via a development blog if the team member agree to having there work viewed there.

Contacts:
You can in touch with us by contacting Simon. Simon is the man who talks to all our new members and introduces them to the project we are working on. He's been on board since day one and knows the project inside out and back to front. His email address is simon.mucha85@gmail.com

Additional Info:
We don't want to give away too much at this stage, but we are serious about what we are doing, and if you have a passion for games, or just want to help out the 'little guys', feel free to enquire!

Feedback:
Any feedback is welcome as long as it is intelligent and constructive. Calling us idiots will not help us improve our design skills, so don't bother.

Lead Artists, Producers and Lead Designers with Entrepreneurial Aspirations Wanted at Valhalla Studios

Forum

Valhalla Studios is Expanding into Melbourne & You can Own a Piece of the Pie! We've recently set up in Melbourne to coordinate it's studio rollout and are looking for more talented partners.

Valhalla Studios is a Self-Sustaining Independent Game Studio & Training College est 2007.

Over the past two years we have perfected a model of business that doesn't rely on Publishers backing to stay afloat, allowing us the freedom and time to make truly new titles.

We are opening a limited number of new studios in Brisbane and Melbourne; and in order to achieve our vision we require a handful of extraordinary people to partner with us.

This model of ownership purchase requires little cash upfront; we assist with acquiring required capital by supplying bank financials and accounting support. We've received feedback from current applicants that this opportunity appears too good to be true, though the successful applicants from our first round of partnering can now vouch for the fact we're serious.

What we're looking for in potential owners:
• A genuine enthusiasm & deep passion for Games & Games Development.
• At least 2 years Industry experience & 1 release .
• A skillset able to fulfil one of the following roles:
○ Lead Designer - Create or refine a truly innovative game mechanic that is most of all fun; C# Coding Experience preferred.
○ Producer - Inspire & Coach the team, delivering project milestones on-time, every time; Intermediate Art skills in industry standard 2D & 3D Packages (Photoshop & Max preferred).
○ Lead Artist - Mentor & support the art team; Art Skills as above in an Advanced capacity.

The Opportunity would give you:

• Extensive creative licence over Titles that your studio makes; and significant input into how they are made.
• A secure salary based role in the company (Lead Designer, Producer or Lead Artist).
• Leadership over 60 passionate Part Time employees
• Profit Share of 5% which could potentially result in an additional income of $35k- $280k (+ for a hit as there is no cap) per year
• Your creative input and ownership interest in the studio will also result in additional potential passive income, as a result of your partial rights to the IP of each Title developed in your studio
• As an added incentive, all qualifying partners will receive part ownership through a pool of all studios, including partial rights to the IP and Profit Shares of all Titles made by the group.
• Qualifying partners will also be invited to sit on the Board for Creative Direction which has direct and significant influence over the development of future titles by the Studios
• All partners will be invited to the Annual Valhalla Retreat - an all expenses paid holiday, to celebrate the years successes.

Ownership of your own studio has never been closer to your reach than through this opportunity; especially considering the major risk factors in studio ownership are the responsibility of Valhalla Studios including:

• Financials for the company (in particular Paying Wages).
• Liaisons with Government bodies & Potential Publishers
• Marketing, branding & sales.
• All financial risk of Leases, Cashflow etc.

What this means is you will not have to put a cent more into the business past your initial buyin; Just Get Creative , Get Innovative and produce a game that is potentially the next hit.

If this sounds like the chance that you've been waiting for, or think it could be, you can send a confidential enquiry (including a resume with Mobile detail) directly to our Founder & President - Elphie Coyle at:

elphie@elphie.com.au

Note, you will need to do the Spam Arrest Verification. Elphie will then personally contact you to arrange a time to meet and visit our Brisbane Studio.

  • Need Someone Who Can Rig And Animate A Run Cycle(small pay), rigger/animator

    Forum

Hi, I'm looking for someone who can rig and animate a basic run cycle for a character. The view we are looking atfor the gameplay, is like tomb raider. I can offer $25us, and you will be given full credit in the game. The engine we are thinking of using is the ogre3D engine. The character is modeled and texture already. If this works out, we have another 3 characters, that will need to be given a basic run cycle too, so more paid work, plus we will have other animation requests, like jumping, punching and kicking.

We are only looking at a game demo for this project, which is based on the comic we have published. The 80 page graphic novel will out in a few months. You can view the first issue of the comic here - http://www.wowio.com/users/product.asp?BookId=5554

We have one programmer ready to go and a character artist, plus one modeler so far. We need anyone who can contribute to the game, (small pay again, for tasks, but great for your resume and full credit will be given to anyone who participates.

Thanks, hope to hear from you soon. I can be contacted - cyndaspell (at) gmail.com
