Digital Lode is an immersive media company located in the Docklands Cotton Mills - Footscray, Victoria. We are a team of VR evangelists working on a variety of real time-rendered VR projects for all platforms, with a focus on standalone consumer VR.

Digital Lode’s primary focus is our original "Espire VR” franchise. Espire 1: VR Operative released in November 2019 on PC, PSVR and Oculus Quest. Espire 1 is a single player VR experience with a focus on stealth, espionage and action. It’s a consistent top seller on the Oculus Quest storefront and we are now taking that success to the next level.

We’re on the lookout for a Junior Quality Assurance professional to join our team, initially on a contract basis. We’re looking for someone with patience along with great attention to detail, who loves stealth games, VR, and the possibilities VR brings.

Responsibilities:
As a Junior QA professional with Digital Lode, you will be testing our projects in VR, using a variety of platforms and headsets. You will be writing up bugs in JIRA, and providing feedback to our developers both in terms of technical and gameplay issues.

Requirements:
• Prior experience in a game or software development environment.
• Great attention to detail.
• Great communication skills both verbal and written.
• Patience to test builds in various states of development.
• Knowledge of the VR landscape.
•Work well within a team environment
•Ability to work onsite when the world returns to Covid-Normal (studio is in Footscray’s “Docklands Cotton Mills”)
•Ability to work off-site (when required due to Covid 19)

Nice to have:
• Knowledge of Quality Assurance best practices.

We are expanding our team and have a position open for a level designer. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in Stealth and VR games to join our level design team and help build out the key environments and encounters in the game.

Responsibilities:

- Using Unreal Engine 4, work through our level design process from concept docs through greyboxing, design iterations, lighting passes, refinement
- Work with the level design team; testing and iterating on each other’s levels while providing and actioning feedback
- Work on multiple levels simultaneously at various stages of development
- Encounter design - placing enemies and threats around the environment
- World Composition - place your environments into various missions, side ops and other game modes using UE4’s level streaming and lighting scenario features
- Maintain level design docs for each of your levels throughout production, referred to by narrative, QA and programmers
- Work with production team to triage and prioritize level design feedback
- Work with the optimisation team to assist with level optimization tasks
- Assist environment artists in fixing Z-fighting and other visual polish issues
- Assist QA team in identifying and fixing collision / out of world issues
- Basic level scripting tasks
- All other duties as assigned

Requirements:

- Minimum two years of level design experience
- Folio of level design, including examples of greybox maps, concept sketches, finished 3D models
- Clearly understand the performance limitations of standalone VR, with the ability to design to strict draw-call & tri-count budgets
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work to tight deadlines
- Have a proactive and problem solving attitude
- Ability to self manage, prioritise and work to deadlines
- Work well within a team environment
- Ability to work onsite when the world returns to Covid-Normal (studio is in Footscray’s “Docklands Cotton Mills”)

C++ Generalist

Us:

We are expanding our team and have a position open for a C++ Generalist. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in gaming and VR to join our team.

You:

You’re great at C++ programming and can write code that is clean and optimised. Multiple years of experience working as a C++ programmer. You might be looking to get into gaming, or already in the game dev industry and looking to shake things up. A passion for VR and a general awareness of trends in the video games industry would be a plus.

What you’ll be doing:

Creating coding solutions that are well optimized and platform-agnostic. You’ll be refining existing code as well as creating new code within our UE4 project, building with C++ and extending with Blueprint in Unreal Engine. You’ll also have the opportunity to use Unreal Engine alongside C++, as well as troubleshooting, problem-solving and even some game designing.

AI Programmer - Unreal Engine 4

We are expanding our team and have a position open for an AI Programmer. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in Stealth AI to take ownership of the AI programming, and create a system to put us in the big leagues of stealth action games.

You:

Using Unreal or Unity, you’ve spent several years crafting consistent and believable AI enemies in games from lowly cannon fodder to dastardly world bosses. You’re a great problem solver, great coder, and understand that games are a team endeavour and are happy to collaborate and share ideas, solutions and code with other team members.

What you’ll be doing:

Creating coding solutions that are well optimized and platform-agnostic, building our new AI system in UE4 using our existing implementation as a base. You’ll be refining existing enemy classes, building new enemy classes, and crafting compelling boss AI for single and multiplayer missions.

Multiplayer Specialist - Unreal Engine 4

We are expanding our team and are looking for a Multiplayer Specialist to join our company. We have grand plans for our Espire stealth franchise and are looking for someone to join the team to help achieve our vision of a sequel that extends the success of our first game and opens it up to a wider audience.

You:

You have several years in game development and have worked on multiplayer systems using a major game development engine such as Unreal or Unity. Your code is well written, well commented, and well optimised so that it works on multiple platforms. Beyond code, you understand how gameplay systems interact and change where players can help or hinder one another, and work with the designers to give players the best experience possible in VR.

What you’ll be doing:

Creating coding solutions that are well optimized and platform-agnostic, programming for multiplayer gameplay mechanics, building with C++ and extending with Blueprint in Unreal Engine, working with replication and solving network gremlins.

Title:

Stealth game AI Programmer- Senior / Mid Level

Description:

We are looking for someone with a keen interest in Stealth AI in a Virtual Reality context, who will join our company to take ownership of the AI programming, and create a system to put us in the big leagues of stealth action games.

- Work with the team to refine the AI system design
- Build a new AI system in UE4 using our existing implementation as a base
- Refine existing enemy classes (soldiers, flying drones, hostages, stationary threats)

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the team on our VR projects, creating coding solutions that are well optimized and platform-agnostic
  • Refactor existing codebase (Blueprint to C++) for multiplayer and performance
  • Gameplay programming for interactable items, gameplay mechanics, etc; building with C++, extending with Blueprint
  • Working with UMG (3D widgets, menu system implementation)
  • General level scripting tasks
  • Adding support for various VR headsets, controller interfaces, peripherals

We have a position opening for a Project Manager in a full-time capacity. Responsibilities are listed below.

Responsibilities:

Team Management:
- Manage task allocation and workload of team across multiple active projects
- Drive team engagement and moral
Manage Development Cycle:
- Ensure milestones are met
- Drive escalation process
Jira Management
- Start/End development sprints
- Manage deliverables for each sprint
- Manage Fix Versions
- Create changelists and reports for game builds
- Log and assign bugs/tasks from QA testing
