Responsibilities:

- Take ownership over designing core game systems, mechanics and features while overseeing the implementation to ensure it aligns with the Product Manager and Creative Director’s vision.

- Implement game designs which take monetization and retention requirements into consideration.

- Create and lead discussions around developing game designs and processes with the wider design team.

Sydney-based game developer Not Doppler is seeking a Junior Game Designer to work on a new, in-development mobile game title.

Whilst Not Doppler’s office is based in Sydney, due to COVID-19 all of our staff are working remotely until a point in time where it is safe to return to an office-based environment. However for this role we are looking for candidates who are either in Sydney, or willing to relocate to Sydney.

Originally founded as a web games portal; in recent years we have shifted our focus to become mobile-first, publishing games such as the Earn to Die series and producing Tap Tap Dash.

Key Duties:
We’re looking for a Junior Game Designer to assist with the development of a new mobile game in our Earn to Die franchise. Across our portfolio our games have reached over 100 million players to date, and we’re looking for a motivated new team member to help us reach even more!

Key duties for this role include:
- Working with a multi-disciplinary team to design, iterate and execute ideas from concept to delivery, across gameplay and metagame systems
- Work with design tools to create compelling level-design appropriate to the aesthetic and feel of the game
- Articulate concepts in a clear and unambiguous way through verbal and written communication
- Work creatively to prototype important mechanics and be receptive to feedback from user testing, team members and stakeholders

  • - Model business processes, identifying third party interactions and potential partners
  • - Conduct self driven research to determine detailed legal, compliance and financial requirements where SMEs are not available
  • - Gather, validate and document detailed requirements​ in an Agile manner
  • - Write requirements as stories for the development team to deliver
  • - Lead QA and UAT and conduct hands on testing to confirm solution meets requirements
  • - Support the Product Lead and other key stakeholders to establish change in the market
  • - Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts

Your Experience

You’ll be joining a team co-founded by passionate gamers and engineers, who value building platforms that are loved by studios, game developers, mod creators and players:

  • - 5+ years experience working as a business analyst in start-ups and/or established businesses
  • - Extensive experience working with large numbers of stakeholders and SMEs
  • - Ability to manage in a nuanced, complex environment with multiple players with competing preferences and needs
  • - Detailed knowledge of financial, legal and compliance requirements for commercial marketplaces at scale - ideally gained working on a marketplace
  • - Ability to convince, persuade and sell ideas
  • - Passionate about delivering and making a difference
  • - Confident in your ability to manage gathering requirements with little oversight from senior team members
  • - Excitement to dig in and learn, with real attention to detail
  • - Ability to work collaboratively with teams to solve business challenges
  • - Strong verbal and written communication
  • - Ability to manage multiple tasks

It would be awesome if you also have:

  • - Strong understanding of the video game industry value chain - the players, interactions, relationships and transactions
  • - Confident in your ability to network and negotiate with financial institutions on a global scale
  • - Experience with Google Mail, Docs, Sheets and Slides
  • - Strong technical skills
