  • It was five months ago that THQ Studio Australia shut its doors and I've been keeping my eye on the usual social internet hotspots to see where people have gone. The first lot I noticed were those with the motivation and ability to go where ever the games work was, mostly Canada, one to Singapore (maybe more?) some back to their countries of origin (UK, US), some to other cities around Australia. Then there are the ones that stuck around Brisbane, mostly locals with families or partners…
  • As THQ's share price continues its extraordinary plummet over the years, from $33.73 five years ago to now just 66 cents according to Kotaku AU, it has had to take some extreme cost cutting measures to stay afloat. One of those measures includes the closure of the publisher's Australian studios, Blue Tongue Entertainment and THQ Studio Australia, last year. Mark Serrels from Kotaku AU has gone through THQ's financial statements to find out how much it cost the publisher to close down their…
  • It's been a busy last few months for Surprise Attack, the new marketing agency for local independent games developers established by games developer veteran and former Marketing Director at THQ's Australian studios, Chris Wright. • Electronics giant, LG, showed off their new 3D Game Experience initiative at this year's CES show which looks to be a system that consists of a very Kinect-like looking camera for full body gesture control functionality and an App Store-like eco system for games to support the new peripheral. The demonstration showing at their booth could initially be mistaken for Fruit Ninja on the Xbox 360 with Kinect except for two main factors. Unlike the Kinect version, this Fruit Ninja is played without…

Inspired by the reports that unearthed the harsh working conditions at Team Bondi, head programmer Glenn Watson opened the lid on the sweat-shop like work conditions at Gameloft's new studio in New Zealand. Glenn described the 70 hours of overtime for 5-6 weeks and the multiple weeks of 100-120 work hours he endured, putting in an average of over 17 hours a day for seven days straight at the worst of…

  • I'm going to make this fairly brief, but it's the end of the year, and we're gonna go for a small break until after New Year's. Submitted jobs and press releases will continue to get posted, but the site will be on cruise control until after the break. In 2012, tsumea will be celebrating our 10th year in existence. It's an incredible milestone. On a cold night during winter in 2002, I made a post on Polycount.com asking if anyone was interested in testing out a locally based games developer…
