  • Infinite Interactive are on a winner with Puzzle Quest, and their new title, Galactrix, looks to expand on this. Steve Fawkner talks to IGN about the development of Galactrix. We're only about 25% done right now, but we're already seeing another hybrid that's going to be as much fun as Puzzle Quest. We've been spending a lot of time making Galactrix feel like quite a different game - the last thing we want to hear from gamers is "oh that's just a Puzzle Quest clone."
  • In an Australian first, US authorities have demonstrated their ability to enforce US laws protecting US companies against Australians in Australia with the cooperation of the Australian government. Hew Griffiths, leader of the software cracking group, Drink or Die, was extradited to the US last February on intellectual property charges, and faces up to 10 years in an American jail. Griffiths? group, Drink or Die, was involved in cracking copy-protected software and media products, distributing…
  • I've been privy to hearing a few stories now and then about quality of life issues in the local games development industry, so it's always a nice change to hear someone championing the cause for a better way for our game developers. Chris Mosely, CEO of Red Tribe, has frequently spoken out against the industry norm of pushing absurd hours onto developers, and in a new post on Screenplay, reiterates his thoughts on that idea... Chris said: "I can't really speak for other studios, we tend to be…
  • It's certainly been quiet with news of the next AFL Premiership game, but a Sony press release has announced that the latest incarnation of the series is heading our way next month on the 28th of June for the Playstation 2. Not much is known about the new title other than that Sony and IR Gurus have taken careful consideration from the feedback received by fans from the previous game... One of the most important factors in the development of the game has been feedback from fans. Each year IR…
  • Just a few weeks ago, Gamespot put up some ingame footage of Pony Friends. Pony friends is described as a "virtual pet game designed exclusively for the Nintendo DS", and will hopefully do for pony fans what Nintendogs did for dog enthusiasts. It's also developed by Melbourne based developer, Tantalus, and the new footage shows off some of the things you could do in-game like cleaning your pony, and taking it out for a ride. Check it out!
  • IGN has a review of the mobile port of Company of Heroes, giving it a decent score of 7.2. What's interesting to us though is that this port of the very popular strategy game was done by Sydney's own Viva la Mobile... After playing more than a few of these games, I found myself getting a wee bit bored of seeing the same mechanics again and again. However, the setting and atmosphere is well-done and I really liked how developer Viva la Mobile stuck close to missions from the PC game. That's the…
  • The most popular and successful animation studio of the last 20 years is opening its archives to the public at ACMI this June. For the first time ever, Pixar, the company that brought you Toy Story, A Bugs Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars and now, Ratatouille, is putting on display its story boards, character model sheets, concept sketches, drawings, paintings, colour-scripts and sculptures that they have created in the last 20 years, and used to make their films come…

  • Stand up Canberra and be counted! You're now on the list! Ok, the list isn't very big, and I've only just started it a few minutes ago, but Canberra can now join Melbourne in the states of Australia to have had some funky game related street art captured. Kotaku, which quite often posts game related pics of street murals and cakes (as well as games news!), has a pic of a snazzy chalk mural taken in our capital state... This very pastel, very cute Pac Man mural was plastered up on the old Woden…
  • IGN AU recently held an interview with local developer, Jonathan Chey, from Irrational Games Australia. Jonathan is credited as the project lead for BioShock, and the local IGN guys drill him with a variety of questions on the highly anticipated FPS shooter... Jon Chey: Actually, this is pretty simple: BioShock is a shooter. It's true that it is doing things that no other shooter has done before, and that gets people confused about what genre it is. It's funny how genres work.... Developers get…
