OVERVIEW

As a lead artist on the team, you will be responsible for partnering with the art director to drive the visual development of the project. Using your deep experience in art production you will help to push the visual development of your project and establish a key part of the art team itself.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with teams through all aspects of the product life cycle, including prototyping, pre-production, production, beta, and release.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Studio Art Director for the overall vision, and also the producer to ensure production requests for art are to the correct standard.
  • Ensure your project’s art is of high quality and meets PlaySide's standards.
  • Partner with art leadership to realize the vision of the game and inspire other artists to achieve it.
  • Prototype new techniques and expand the team’s artistic capabilities.
  • Help to develop and staff the art team with talented artists who will thrive in our collaborative environment.
  • Conduct regular 1:1’s with your team to support them in their Art & career.
  • Collaborate with all members of a team to make sure artwork fits within technical, design, and production requirements.
  • Ensure your team members hit all their goals set in quarterly reviews.
  • Participate in and run meetings, reviews, and planning as part of effective communication with the team and outsourcing studios.
  • Ensure that all assets created by the art team and external teams conform to the style and technical guidelines of the title.
  • Collaborate productively within a multi-disciplined team environment, including designers and coders, communicating with both technical and non-technical staff across disciplines.
  • Improve workflow and efficiency by sharing experience and skills verbally and through presentations and/or documentation.

What you bring to the role

  • Proficient in the use of 3D modelling applications such as Maya or Zbrush, as well surfacing tools like Substance Designer and Painter.
  • Professional experience as an Artist in game development.
  • Solid background in traditional arts, including but not limited to painting, illustration, design, or traditional media.
  • Eye for light, shade, color, and detail.
  • You love to solve problems and you love to collaborate. Creating epic entertainment experiences is a team effort and you thrive when exploring ideas and working with others.
  • You love to learn new tools and techniques, and you have a passion for sharing them with others.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication with both internal and external parties.
  • Proven ability to work on a variety of styles to a high level of quality and showcased in shipped titles.
  • An understanding of both the game development process and working in Unity/Unreal.
  • Ability to take the initiative, be highly disciplined and self-motivated
  • Ability to understand, match, and communicate varied target styles.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven experience managing multiple 2D and/or 3D assets in various states of completion.
  • Positive, make-it-happen, lead-by-example attitude
